Mess L Akhmad Fahipi 12B
The building named Mess L is located at the intersection of Garuda Street and Merpati Street, in the Komet neighborhood of Banjarbaru. The name "Mess L" is derived from the fact that the building is shaped like the letter "L." Its history dates back to the golden era of Indonesia's relationship with the Soviet Union. Originally, it was built as accommodation for Russian industrial workers during the time when Indonesia and the Soviet Union had strong ties.
The building was initially constructed to house staff and engineers from the Soviet Union who were working on the Kalimantan Iron and Steel Project. According to the historical literature in the book "Sejarah Banjarbaru" (History of Banjarbaru), Mess L was established around the year 1963.
Inside Mess L, there is also a stage that is typically used for live music performances, artistic performances, poetry readings, and other artistic events. In front of the stage, there is a spacious area where people can stand and watch the performances on the stage. The interior of Mess L is also occasionally used for other events such as Meet & Greet sessions, gaming events, and more.
On the edge of the field, there is also a food court that offers a variety of foods and drinks. The food and beverages provided are trendy and can be enjoyed by people from various backgrounds. The prices offered by the different stands are also affordable and budget-friendly, making it convenient for everyone's pocket.
Behind the food court, there is a large banyan tree. Beneath this tree, there are chairs and tables for visitors to sit, and there is also a children's play area, allowing parents with young kids to relax. This banyan tree used to be a water tank made of ulin wood and concrete. However, due to its age, the tree has gradually enveloped and covered the water tank, creating a unique sight. On the tree's roots, various pieces of information can be found, such as the history of Mess L, the individuals behind its construction, and even photos from the time when Mess L was operational.
